This trend is another example of how the past year has inspired us to combine fashion with functionality. In 2021 we are seeing lots of dresses and shirts with overly puffy sleeves, a fun little nod to the 80’s. It’s so fun to play with proportions and give the look of a more dramatic silhouette. This is a good example of a popular trend that sparks nostalgia, especially for those who got married in the 80s and wore a puff sleeved wedding dress. One of my favorite bright color combinations right now is bright orange and bright pink. A tip I have if you want to try this trend is to thrift your bright colors, because you don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a trend that you might not like. You can try this trend in many different ways, not just your clothes; using color blocking for your summer nails or makeup is a great way to add some color to a neutral look.
Cottagecore Aesthetic
Another recall to nostalgic styles of the past, cottage core aesthetics are everywhere this year. This trend is not only popular because of the clothes, but actually the lifestyle that is associated with cottagecore. Also known as farmcore or countrycore, cottagecore has a very specific look that is inspired by a romanticized interpretation of rural or farm lifestyles, away from the distraction of technology. Some items that are considered cottage core would be romantic peasant dresses sometimes with ruffles, puff sleeves, and floral prints.
