What a year! No one at all thought 2020 would pan out the way that it did. There were so many changes to the way we go about our everyday lives. Now that the vaccine is out, masks are being worn, social distancing measures are in place, we are starting to see more places have the liberty to open up. This is exciting, but also nerve racking for those of us who haven't moved out of our favorite sweater since quarantine started. It's probably been a little bit since you've only been focused on home fashions and not so much what is trending out on the streets for the upcoming seasons.

As Boise's leading fashion experts, it's our duty to make sure you have the most for-fronting information to select pieces that are on trend after we took a year off. In a world where new brands are popping up every day, it can be quite overwhelming to decide what to wear or invest in. To help save you time, this list of 2021 women’s fashion trends should help with your indecisiveness when it comes to picking out your outfit for your first post-covid event.

Athflow

“When athleisure meets elegance.”

Dressing comfortably is probably one of the best trends to come from 2020. After a year of lockdown and wearing an excessive amount of sweatpants, the athleisure trend has now evolved into what’s called Athflow. The idea behind Athflow is that what you’re wearing should be professional enough to wear to work (or work from home), and comfy enough to wear on the couch as well as during a workout. If you're looking for yoga clothes for women, a great place to do some online shopping or in person shopping is Voxn Clothing in Boise, ID. Voxn is a startup women's clothing brand that specializes in technical wear, providing athletes with everything they need in their closet for any occasion.

Scarves

A silk scarf is one of the only items you really need in your wardrobe this summer. There are so many different ways to style this item. You can wear it many different ways as a shirt, tie it on your head, around your neck, or use it as a belt. You can even tie it into a purse or tote bag depending on the size. It can take any plain or basic outfit from being boring to high fashion. You can find these scarves online at almost any trendy online boutique, thrift store, or women's clothing stores.

Tennis wear

Another form of the athleisure trend is tennis wear. Similar to the concept of Athflow, this trend takes technical clothing and gives it a fashionable purpose. The difference is that these clothes are specific to the sport of tennis rather than just athletic wear in general. The halter mini dresses, a-line skirts, and even polo shirts have become very popular among Instagram trends in 2021. This trend is another example of how the past year has inspired us to combine fashion with functionality. Wearing tennis clothes can be very empowering for women because tennis is one of few sports where women wear dresses.

Puffy Sleeves

In 2021 we are seeing lots of dresses and shirts with overly puffy sleeves, a fun little nod to the 80’s. It’s so fun to play with proportions and give the look of a more dramatic silhouette. This is a good example of a popular trend that sparks nostalgia, especially for those who got married in the 80s and wore a puff sleeved wedding dress. There are many dress shops that carry dresses with puff sleeves.

Color blocking

Dress in colors that make you happy! Color blocking is one of many 2021 fashion color trends that have been circulating. Color blocking is pairing colors together that are opposite on the color wheel or have enough variance to create a unique contrasted look. One of my favorite bright color combinations right now is bright orange and bright pink. A tip I have if you want to try this trend is to thrift your bright colors, because you don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a trend that you might not like. You can try this trend in many different ways, not just your clothes; using color blocking for your summer nails or makeup is a great way to add some color to a neutral look.

Cottagecore Aesthetic

Another recall to nostalgic styles of the past, cottage core aesthetics are everywhere this year. This trend is not only popular because of the clothes, but actually the lifestyle that is associated with cottagecore. Also known as farmcore or countrycore, cottagecore has a very specific look that is inspired by a romanticized interpretation of rural or farm lifestyles, away from the distraction of technology. Some items that are considered cottage core would be romantic peasant dresses sometimes with ruffles, puff sleeves, and floral prints. You can find looks like this at many clothing stores or trendy online boutiques. The dress pictured above is from the women's boutique Voxn and you can purchase it here
